Instructional Technology:
Overview

What is instructional technology?

Instructional technology (IT) focuses on delivering effective and efficient instruction and learning. It encompasses the systematic analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional materials and strategies to improve or facilitate effective learning and performance in a variety of settings, online or in person.

The term technology applies to not only the tools or media used to support learning, but also the means by which instruction is designed via the application of research and learning theory.

Instructional technology also involves the assessment of existing and emerging technologies to determine their effectiveness and any ethical concerns involved with their use.
